These classic Christmas cookies are the perfect one-bite treat. You can make them in a variety of shapes, colors, and flavors. They dress up any Christmas plate and are always a crowd favorite!

You can decorate with sprinkles, colored sugars, icing drizzle, or color your dough. If you are feeling a little crazy, you could combine decoration methods. You do whatever the holiday spirit inspires you to do!

We made the traditional almond flavor, but you could try lemon, vanilla, anise, or even a cinnamon spice flavor.

Happy baking!

Disclaimer: you will need a Wilton’s Cookie Pro Ultra II (or similar cookie press) to make these.

Ingredients:

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1 ½ cups butter

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 2 tbsp milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp almond extract

  • Food coloring (optional)

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees

  • In a medium bowl, combine flour and baking powder

  • In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar

  • Add egg, milk, vanilla + almond extracts

  • Gradually stir in the flour mixture

  • Once it is all combined, stir in food coloring if desired, then load the dough into the cookie press barrel - note: the dough should be soft and stick together

  • Use the cookie press to place dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes

Tips and Tricks for this Cookie:

  • When placing the dough on the cookie sheet, you don’t need to put much space between each cookie. Spritz won’t spread out as they bake.

  • Don’t grease or put parchment paper/ Silpat on the cookie sheet. The dough must stick to the cookie sheet when you press it out. Don’t worry - there is plenty of butter in the dough to prevent sticking once baked. For more intricate Spritz patterns, hold the press directly on the pan for 3-5 seconds after squeezing the trigger to allow the dough to fall onto the sheet. This makes for a cleaner design. If needed, go back and clean up the design with toothpicks.

Yields - between 10-12 dozen cookies

Total Cookie Count for the Season: 167
